Bottom line: Most travelers from South Korea reach Guilin by connecting through a major hub, then a domestic flight or high-speed train to Guilin Liangjiang Airport. Plan 5-6 days and travel in spring or autumn for the best weather.

Flights & getting there from South Korea

Most international travelers depart from Seoul (Incheon and Gimpo) and Busan. There are no scheduled nonstop flights between South Korea and Guilin as of September 2026. Most Korean travelers fly Seoul-Incheon to Shanghai, Beijing, or Guangzhou, then take a domestic flight to Guilin Liangjiang Airport (KWL) or a 2.5-4 hour high-speed train from Guangzhou or Shenzhen. Some itineraries connect through Hong Kong. Total door-to-door time is usually 8-12 hours, so an overnight layover in a hub city can make the journey more comfortable.

Paying with Alipay & cards

Alipay and WeChat Pay accept most Korea-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards once you complete the in-app identity verification, which is easiest to finish before departure. Tourists do not need a Chinese bank account for everyday spending. We recommend setting up both apps as a backup because some smaller Yangshuo vendors prefer one over the other. Our digital setup guide explains the step-by-step registration.

Driving & licenses

A Korean driving licence is not valid for driving in mainland China on its own, and China does not recognise the International Driving Permit. To self-drive you would need a Chinese licence. Most Korean visitors get around by high-speed train, DiDi taxis, or a private car with a local driver. See our car rental guide for the realistic options and costs.

Best time to visit

Korea and China share similar seasonal patterns. Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-November) are the best windows for Guilin's scenery and weather. Summer is hot, humid, and crowded; winter is cool, misty, and quiet. Korean travelers often visit during the Chuseok autumn holiday or the May short break, so book hotels and trains well ahead. South Korea uses 220V Type C/F plugs; China uses 220V Type A/C/I. Most modern Korean chargers support 100-240V and will work with a simple adapter or directly in Type C sockets. A universal adapter is cheap insurance for hotels with only Type A or I outlets. China is one hour behind South Korea (UTC+8 versus UTC+9), with no daylight-saving time in either country, so the gap stays constant and jet lag is minimal.

Visa & entry

As of September 2026, South Korean passport holders can use China's 240-hour visa-free transit program when continuing to a third country or region with an onward ticket. For a standard round-trip visit to China, most Korean travelers obtain a tourist (L) visa in advance. Policies change, so confirm the current rules with the Chinese embassy or an official source before booking flights. Our visa-free travel guide explains the transit options for Guilin and Yangshuo.

Five to six days covers Guilin city, the Li River, Yangshuo, and a Longji side trip. A 3-4 day trip is enough for Guilin and Yangshuo only. Our itinerary guides map it day by day.

Korean restaurants are limited in Guilin and Yangshuo compared with Beijing or Shanghai. You will find a handful of Korean barbecue and noodle shops in Guilin city, while Yangshuo has fewer options. Local Chinese food is the default, so travellers with strict dietary needs should plan accordingly.
